Industrial AC Drives Overview

Industrial AC Drives control motor speed, torque, and position. They support open-loop and closed-loop operation. In addition, they work with single- or multi-motor systems. They also support AC induction and servo motors. As a result, they fit many automation applications.

Operating Modes

Industrial AC drives support several control modes. For example, you can configure them for basic speed control or high-performance motion control.

Open-loop (V/Hz) control
First, use this mode for basic speed control. It works well for single- or multi-motor applications.

Sensorless vector control
Next, choose this mode for higher torque and tighter speed regulation. It uses vector algorithms and does not require a feedback device.

Closed-loop vector control
Then, add encoder feedback for full flux vector performance. This setup can deliver full-load torque at standstill. It also enables a highly dynamic speed loop.

PMAC servo motor control
Additionally, this mode supports permanent magnet AC motors. Use it when you need precise motion control with feedback devices.

Active front-end regeneration
Finally, use this configuration for four-quadrant operation or continuous braking. It returns energy to the grid. It also helps reduce harmonics and improves power factor.

Feedback Options

Many industrial AC drives support multiple feedback devices. Therefore, you may not need to replace an existing motor. This can reduce cost and speed up upgrades.
